From the United States to an increasingly global luxury marketplace, Dr. Melissa “Melz” Jones and Ariel Jones are merging dentistry, fine jewelry and design to challenge the boundaries of what luxury can be.

Luxury has never respected borders. A design can begin in Paris and influence Toronto. A cultural movement born in New York can reshape fashion in London. An idea originating in Atlanta can find relevance with consumers around the world. For Dr. Melissa “Melz” Jones and her daughter, Ariel Jones, that increasingly interconnected luxury landscape presents an opportunity. Together, the mother-daughter entrepreneurs are building House of Melz, an emerging American luxury oral jewelry house bringing dentistry, fine jewelry, fashion, culture and innovation under one roof. Their ambition isn’t simply to create another jewelry company. They are working to expand the definition of where luxury can exist.

Two Generations. Two Disciplines. One House.

The story begins with an unlikely pairing of expertise. A native of West Philadelphia, Dr. Melissa Jones has spent nearly three decades in dentistry. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from Howard University College of Dentistry in Washington, D.C., followed by advanced postgraduate dental training. In 2008, she took another significant step: ownership. Dr. Jones founded A Family Dental Place, establishing herself not only as a clinician, but as an entrepreneur.

Years later, that combination of clinical expertise and business ownership would become an important foundation for something neither traditional dentistry nor traditional jewelry had fully explored. Her daughter Ariel brought the other half of the equation. Raised in Atlanta, Ariel studied through the University of Georgia’s Music Business Program and Terry College of Business and developed experience spanning music management, styling, creative direction, marketing, influencer relations, and social media. Today, as Lead Designer and Creative Director of House of Melz, she brings a distinctly contemporary perspective to the company. Her mother understands the science. Ariel understands the visual language of a new generation. Together, they understand something even more valuable: opportunity.

Changing the Conversation Around Oral Jewelry

Under House of Melz are two distinctive brands: Melz Grillz and Icy Ortho. Melz Grillz approaches customized grillz as luxury oral jewelry—placing craftsmanship, precious materials, personalization, and design at the centre of the experience.

Icy Ortho™ pushes the concept further. The patent-pending innovation reimagines the traditional retainer through a luxury lens, incorporating precious metals, natural diamonds, gemstones, and individualized design while maintaining its clinical purpose. The concept began with a deceptively simple question:

Why should something functional be excluded from luxury?

It is a question with implications far beyond dentistry. Across the international luxury market, consumers are increasingly looking for pieces that feel personal, experiential, and expressive. Customization has become its own form of status. The most compelling products often are not simply expensive; they tell the world something about the person wearing them. House of Melz believes the smile deserves to be part of that conversation.

Culture Has Always Travelled

Oral jewelry itself has a rich cultural story. Grillz have long held significance within hip-hop and Black cultural expression, becoming recognizable symbols of individuality, achievement, and personal style. But culture moves. What begins within one community can eventually influence global fashion, art and design. Today, the relationship between street culture and luxury is dramatically different from what it was decades ago. The boundaries between the two have blurred as luxury houses increasingly draw inspiration from music, sport, art and cultural movements that transcend geography. That evolution creates an intriguing space for House of Melz. Rather than separating cultural expression from fine jewelry, the company brings the two together, while adding another discipline rarely associated with either: Dentistry.

The Advantage of Expertise

That clinical foundation may ultimately be one of House of Melz’s most significant differentiators. Dr. Jones is not approaching the mouth simply as another location for jewelry. Her perspective has been shaped by decades of understanding oral anatomy, function, fit and patient care. Ariel approaches the same space from an entirely different direction. She sees design. She sees fashion. She sees what a piece can communicate. That intersection gives the company its identity.

Dentistry meets design. Science meets style. Experience meets a new generation of luxury. And at the centre of it are two women from different generations building the company together.

From American Innovation to Global Possibility

House of Melz is American-born, but the idea behind it is not confined by geography. Personal expression is universal. So is the desire for individuality. From Toronto to London, Paris to Dubai, consumers are increasingly exposed to a luxury marketplace where fashion, technology, customization and culture are continuously intersecting. That creates a larger opportunity for House of Melz. The question is no longer simply whether consumers will embrace luxury oral jewelry. The more interesting question may be:

How far can the category go?

For Dr. Melz and Ariel, the answer is still being written. They are building intellectual property. They are combining disciplines. They are challenging assumptions about objects people have viewed the same way for generations. And they are doing it together. Mother and daughter. Dentist and designer. Two generations with one vision. House of Melz may have been born in the United States, but its founders are building with a much bigger world in mind. Because Dr. Melz and Ariel aren’t waiting for the luxury industry to define where they belong. They’re building their own house and opening the door to the world.
